Anti-cyber bullying

What is Cyber bullying?

Cyber bullying is any communication sent by a  child/teenager via instant message, e-mail, game device, etc. that is meant to scare, humiliate, hurt,  or manipulate another child or teenager.

Short definition: It’s when one young person uses digital technology to hurt another young person.

What you should know!

BIST pupils need to know they are not alone and that we treat any form of cyber bullying as seriously as other forms of bullying.

If you are being cyber bullied you can and should speak to the school councilor, head of secondary/primary, form tutor or any other adult you trust.

You can also ask the teachers in the ICT department about your personal social networking sites, how to delete and report offensive material and set security and privacy settings.

Pupils who have cyber bullied or maybe considering it should also be aware that they themselves are at great risk. For once they have uploaded something online i.e. digitized it, then it can never be fully erased. They can be tracked and found and it is a permanent record of what they said. Thailand has very strict libel laws and people are regularly given 2 year jail terms or fined for spreading false rumours or “defaming” someone’s character. If the person is below 16 the family can be charged. They will also face strict punishment at school along with any bullying offence.
